How would you go about making an interesting AFF one-shot.
This is coming as a result of my topic about the 12 SKILL score problem. FF books and AFF2e are def made for long stories. The players high STAMINA shows that. So how would you make a challenging one-shot? Monsters could be stronger I guess? Give players less STAMINA? Leave STATS as is. They'll need...

Re: Looking at The SKILL 12 problem with new eyes
Funnily enough I had the same thing playing co-operative Icewind Dale. I was the cleric, some of the earlier big dungeons are undead focused so I was cleaning up and very much the biggest deal in the party. Then a dungeon or two later we were up against giants (iirc) and the barbarian was the only ...

Yes, seem that the link SKinnyOrc provided leads to something different. Has it changed over time?

Re: Allansian Sorcery
Great minds think alike! I'm including both the spells from Citadel of Chaos and Temple of Terror in Encyclopedia Arcana: Volume 1 (currently 75K words and almost there). They'll be in an Appendix for a new magical style called: Demi-Sorcery. The color text reads: New Magical Special Skills Magic-D...

Re: Looking at The SKILL 12 problem with new eyes
I think it pretty much boils down to that as well, yah. There's still interesting choices to be made and roleplay, puzzles and traps. And yet even with combat greater SKILL just means greater challenges. So what if a single orc isn't a threat anymore? Throw a dozen at them, at once, and some archer...

Looking at The SKILL 12 problem with new eyes
I've read a few online articles, and I think it was addressed on this forum as well, the problem of having a 12 skill character who walks over everything, Over time I've learned more about running games and game design and I don't think this is a problem. The key here is how the game is set up and i...

Re: Is luck roll given to resist priest magic?
That's what I thought. I just couldn't find the answer to confirm it. That makes priest magic really powerful

Re: Allansian Sorcery
Temple of Terror is still on my bookshelf waiting for me. Just curious, in it Yaztromo describes what he's teaching as sorcery? Does it have any of the characteristics of normal sorcery like physical spell components and costing STAM? Maybe they're wizardry spells and he just calls it sorcery? If i...

Re: Allansian Sorcery
Interestingly enough you could make the assertion that this magic grew out of Analandian Sorcery of you consider the book release dates as chronological. Shamutanti Hills was released in 1983 and The Temple of Terror Was Released in 1985. I don't know if that means the stories happen in that order ...

Is luck roll given to resist priest magic?
I couldn't find the answer.
Not even sure if some abilities need an attack roll.
If a priest has the curse spell does he need to make an attack roll?
If a priest has weakness does the enemy get a test of luck to resist?

Re: Allansian Sorcery
I must admit that I don’t have an extensive knowledge of the Sorcery spells. Is this a subset or a different list? Are you suggesting that there is a different tradition of Sorcery which has grown in Allansia after it was introduced from the Old World? Different List. II'd say that Allansia already...

Allansian Sorcery
I've pondered on this for a while. Answer was right in my face all along. As taught by Yaztromo in Temple of Terror, Allansian Sorcery. Open Door - 2 stamina Creature Sleep - 1 stamina Magic Arrow - 2 stamina Language - 1 stamina Read Symbols - 1 stamina Light - 2 stamina Fire - 1 or 2 stamina Jump ...

Re: Tweaks and clarifications to the new AFF rulebook
I know I posted a lot of questions because I was unsure how to resolve them but as someone else pointed out, the more rules we put in the less this becomes like AFF. My feeling now, after GMing so much, is that the rules are there to help me resolve situations, so most calls are up to me. The only t...

Re: WOFTM session finaly. Further Analysis.
Were the players used to other games where healing was more plentiful? It sounds like if they'd been more wary of combat from the beginning things wouldn't have been so dire by the end. It's definitely something that takes getting used to. On the food situation, I can't check my copy of the adventu...
