Using AFF2 in alternative campaign settings

So my campaign has been humming along, and eventually I got tired of playing around in Titan. Granted, it's a pretty malleable setting, but it still remains that it is a setting created by other authors. I wanted to get my players off of that rock and into a world of my own design. Another reason fo...

It has been a lot of fun. We had an eleventh session the following night, and our twelfth session is coming up. Somehow we now have three NPCs in the party (one of whom is Quin, the bodybuilder from Darkwood Forest - long story) as well. And Fangthane is presently overrun with demons from the Pit......

Guys, I brought a Tarrasque into an AFF2 campaign

Yeah, I did that. We had our tenth session tonight, and we were at the end of the initial plotline, and a big giant monster seemed like a good way to go out with a bang. The party is about to be offed by the big bad (in reality, my PC from an old D&D campaign who happened to wield Excalibur and had ...

Mass battle rules would be nice. I had a mass battle in the most recent session I ran, (the eighth so far of the campaign) and I had to homebrew a solution. Worked well enough (I was more concerned about efficiency over realism) but something more developed would be appreciated.

New material might be nice, but personally I'm having more fun filling in the blank spaces in the world myself. Right now I've got my players heading to a heavily reimagined version of Mirewater.

Sounds fun! Are you going to guide them towards the hammer a little bit? In the book I recall having to play through a few times before I found it. It was quite fun. Our next session is supposed to be the day after tomorrow. I don't think they'll have too much trouble finding the pieces, but you ne...

Just ran my first AFF2 session

I just felt like posting here because as the title implies, I just ran my first session using this system, and it went rather well. My style is to play things fast and loose whenever possible, which is one of the reasons I was drawn to using this system - it's easy enough to modify on the fly to acc...

General rocky terrain. I wasn't exactly sure what terrain type it should be, but I thought that it might be something more dark, being near other unpleasant parts of the world. Allansia seems to get more inhospitable the further south you go of the more settled and well-documented areas, so I just r...

Thanks. I based it on the published maps in Titan and Out of the Pit , as well as someone's fanmade map I found online and a bit of my own imagination. I like to think of the scale as comparable to our own continents; Allansia might be roughly as wide as the United States at its widest point, for ex...

Hex map of Allansia

I created a hex map of Allansia in Hexographer. It's not comprehensive, but it should be serviceable if you have a use for such a thing. Use as you will, hope it is of help to somebody.

Yeah I guess it's not obvious to me what the scaling should be for high-powered PCs/NPCs. After all, if you consider with his Sword skill of 3, as I've statted him Aragorn is already more effective in combat than pretty much anything in OOTP bar an adult dragon. My impression of Aragorn is that he ...

They seem a little bit low to me. For instance, I'd give Aragorn at least max skill. IIRC, one of the various LOTR RPGs (I think there have been, what, three official ones by now?) statted him a few levels above max for PCs, like level 27 vs. level 20 or something like that. My brother, friends and ...

I'm still removing the caps, though. Scaling is easy. Just wondering, if you allow abilities to increase substantially, how do you handle skill checks? Does a skill 12 hero automatically succeed at everything? Seems to me that the 2d6 nature of the system places severe limits on stat improvement. E...

I think I'll skip using levels for now, actually. It's a bit more trouble than it's worth when there are plenty of things to design and tinker with already. I still prefer the concept of levels, but I'll just think of characters in terms of, "Bob is a X-point character," like GURPS or something. I'm...
