Re: Unanswered questions (Potential stories)

I'm not going to discuss Unanswered questions this time. Deathtrap dungeon has a few but not anything that I feel is interesting enough for further exploration. This time I'm hoping to discuss the "Feel" of the setting for fighting fantasy. There is something I feel is different about Allansia, Khu...

Re: BODY, MIND & SPIRIT

I thank adapting SKILL like this is ok - with a light touch you can still keep the FF feel. There have been one or two suggestions along these lines on these forums - including my own here: viewtopic.php?f=13&t=588.

Re: Using D&D 5th ed for Titan

I'm also impressed with 5e D&D. Hard to imagine using anything but AFF for Titan, but it would probably work really well. Another possibility is to take some ideas from 5e into AFF, e.g. the advantage/disadvantage rule, which is very nice.

Re: Gold value in game books vs RPG/titan

Personally I prefer the prices in the gamebooks, i.e. things costing just a handful of gold at most. I tend to scale back the prices in RPGs which assume players are carrying around hundreds of coins just to buy lunch. A lot of trading should be done via barter anyway outside the most civilised part...

Re: Encyclopedia of Titan?

It's great to get these scales worked out and agreed, even if it does mean that the continents end up being a bit smaller than I had envisaged. E.g. Allansia is about the size of western Europe (~1000 miles across, roughly the distance from Edinburgh to Marseilles). I like the idea of periplus maps ...

Re: Most priests don't have the magic - priestly skill?

This makes a lot of sense. Would non-magic-using priests be useful as Heroes I wonder?

Re: Proportion of the population by MAGIC and magic skills

This is very useful. Even though you are correct that 10 MP is more useful than 9 or 11 because of the rules of AFF, I don't think people would necessarily be aware how many MP they have (obviously in the context of a game we have to but perhaps Heroes are specially attuned in this regard), and peop...

Re: Legends don't really have maximum scores?

Maybe even legends such Nicodemus, Yaztromo, Zagor, Balthus Dire (who, remember, used a ring of +2 skill) actually have skills of 7 or 8 and their high skills in books are due to weapon skills. And maybe, they might not even have magic scores of 6 (Balthus Dire seems more like the type to use magic...

Re: The third dice…

This is a nice idea. I suppose the only fiddly part is having to make this decision without seeing the other roll, which means doing the rolls in secret rather than in the open. On the other hand, if it's a Hero against a monster (the majority of combats), maybe the simplest thing is for the GM to r...

Re: Automatic success for certain special skill values

I would often roll anyway as the score gives an idea of how well the player has succeeded, rather than just success/fail. Also there's always the option of a fumble..

Re: Getting Lucky: Comparing luck in Firetop/Citadel

Luck is actually one of the hidden strengths of AFF. Obviously it's a metagame mechanism which gives players/GMs an extra measure of control over the story, but does it without the forced artificiality of hero points or bennies. Particularly in Titan, Luck still feels like part of how the world work...

Re: More skills or better skills?

This is one of those age old questions.. Like deciding what to buy from the shop in a Livingstone book - do you buy the expensive magical item or several cheaper things.. Or which spells to learn in Sorcery! I agree it depends on the author/Director. Personally I like to include opportunities for th...

Re: House Rules: The Flanker Conventions

I like Graham's solution. Seems kind of Rolemasteresque - in a good way.

However I get round this whole issue just by hardly giving out any XP..
