Special Skills, they can be increased to a maximum of +4?
Nope, it's not a maximum. However if you reach +4 in any skill your supposedly at a masterful level.

One of the things I look for in an rpg, is how far characters can improve/advance before they hit a ceiling as far as attributes, skills, etc are concerned.

To that end, are some Traits stackable? For example, can you purchase a Trait that grants you a +1 to notice stuff, then a +2 if you purchase it a second time?

Also, how often can you purchase a Trait?

RAW you can't stack traits, but if you played for a very long time indeed then it probably wouldn't unbalance things as the Heroes will be very powerful anyway.

The primary stats get more and more expensive to increase, and because there are 3/4 of them, loads of special skills and loads of traits, you should be able to play for years. Traits cost 1000xp each, which is a lot, and you may also have to justify why. Even a major hero probably only has 2 or 3.

But again, it is your game and it is very easy to tweak things to make them fit better.

There is an experience system that may allow Special Skill levels to be increased, so this might become an issue later on in the game as the scores get higher and the rolls much more easy for the player to succeed at.

Is this true, if so, is there a workaround?

There's a similar problem with Barbarians of Lemuria (2d6 mechanic), and the obvious tweak would be to have all skill rolls operate on a 2d10 dice mechanic.

How might using a 2d10 mechanic work out?

EDIT: Also, how does AFF manage deity/cleric type magic?
Use 3d6?

Hey, that's interesting

3d6 for SKILL rolls, and for fighting?

Aside from fighting, how are opposed skill rolls conducted?

Well hehe... you say 'only' 200, but I've devised a more detailed xp system which makes it take a while to reach 200 xp. And even then it's not like all the players are going to scream "OMGOMGOMG I NEED A NEW TALENT". They're more than likely going to want to boost their stats or obtain another special skill point.
