NPC list

Hi all. I thought that I would start a list of NPCs that people can add to - either stock NPCs when you need a quick character or also interesting NPCs with interesting stories who could fit into the campaign somewhere.

Human farmhand

HUMAN FARMHAND SKILL 5 STAMINA 7

Skills: Language - Common 4, Craft - Farming 2, Animal Lore 1, Strength 1, Terrain Lore - Plains 1, Religion Lore 1, Ride 1

Talent: Packhorse.

Social scale: 1

Weapon: None

Armour: None

A typical labourer in rural areas who looks after animals and harvests crops.

Human Guide

HUMAN GUIDE SKILL 6 STAMINA 8

Skills: Language - Common 4, Terrain Lore (any) 2, Hunting 2, Fishing 1, Navigation 2, Ride 1, World Lore 1, Religion Lore 1, Healing 1, Bows 1.

Talent: Survivor

Social Scale: 2

Weapon: Shortsword, shortbow.

Armour: Leather cuirass

This is someone who has spent a lot of time outdoors, getting to know the area they live in. Using the Heroes' Companion, hiring this guide costs 9gp a day (6 for skill, 2 for special skill and 1 for own equipment). It will be 10gp a day if the guide needs to provide a horse.

Human steward

HUMAN STEWARD SKILL 5 STAMINA 7

Skills: Language - Common 4, World Lore 1, Religion Lore 1, Awareness 1, City Lore - Salamonis 2, Etiquette 2, Stewardship 2, Con 1, Leadership 1, Bargain 1, Evaluate 1.

This is a servant with some responsibility working for a noble house in Salamonis.

Human guard

This is a typical guard in the watch. They will count as soldiers in a dominion.

Messengers are employed to transport messages from one place to another across the wilderness as quickly as possible.

Human apprentice wizard

This monk has been created using the character creation rules. It fits the martial monk archetype, making use of the swashbuckler talent and getting a +1 to dodge for being human and +2 in the skill.

ARMOUR: None

This character was created using the character creation rules. This is a warrior-wizard who uses their magic to enhance their already formidable combat ability. With the use of magic, they could beat any other warrior, but without it, they are inferior.

Enchant Weapon (1)

This spell may be cast on any nonmagical melee weapon, which must be touched. When it is, it will crackle with fire. For a number of minutes equal to the Arcane Power of the wizard, the weapon will count as enchanted and it will also have a +1 bonus to damage rolls. The weapon can also count as silver for the purposes of harming vampires and werewolves etc.

Human Archer

Social Scale 3

WEAPON: Mace

Armour: Breastplate, large shield

An expert in fighting in heavy armour, the armiger is a slow, but resilient combatant who is capable of holding of a furious assault.

Human Naval Sorcerer

NAVAL SORCERER SKILL 6 STAMINA 14 MAGIC 9

Skills: Magic - Naval Sorcery 5, Sea Lore 3, World Lore 3, Religion Lore 1, Magic Lore 2, Second Sight 2, Magic - Minor 3, Climb 1, Swords 1, Awareness 1, Con 2, Bargain 2, Etiquette 2, Fishing 1, Leadership 1, Secret Signs 2

Talents: Natural Mage, Natural Linguist, Attuned

Minor Spells: Find North, Glowing Letters, Cook, Know Time, Coin Flip,Extinguish, Burn, Mend, Weather Protection.

Naval sorcerers are highly sought after and expensive. This one costs 26gp per day to hire. They are certainly worth it, though.

This represents a lady in waiting or hanger-on to a high ranking noble or royal in a civilised place like Analand or Salamonis were politics will get you further than swordsmanship (or womanship). This assumes a scheming, ambitous courtier - for a more honest, 'boon companion' sort reduce Con.

Using the ideas in the book of making NPCs as simple as possible along with the skill proportion rules, I might change my NPCs a bit and make them simpler.

Human Militia

More NPCs. In this case, not all the skills are listed, so if the director wants a miner who knows miner magic and has the glimmer spell, that sort of thing could happen.


Village wiseman/wisewoman

Just to note that not all the skills and spells are listed – only the most relevant ones (as stated in Heroes’ Companion). So there is plenty of opportunity to add skills to flesh out your NPCs. These are the adventurers built using the Flanker Conventions. Also, since they are NPCS, most of these characters do not have talents, unless they are needed for their character to function.
